1. Multiple choice cloze
What is it?
You are given a short text with eight gaps. For each gap you should choose one word out of four (A, B, C, D).
What do you have to practise?
Vocabulary, synonyms, collocations, prepositions, set phrases

2. Open Cloze
What is it?
You are presented with a short text that has eight gaps. You should write in one word in each gap.
What do you have to practise?
Grammar and vocabulary > you might have to change the form

3. Word Formation 
What is it?
A text containing eight gaps. Each gap represents a word. At the end of the line is a ‘prompt’ word which the student has to change in some way to make the correct missing word and complete the sentence correctly.

Vocabulary – word-building

4. Key word Transformations
What is it? 
 A sentence followed by a key word and a second sentence which has a gap in it. Students have to use the key word to complete the second sentence so that it is similar in meaning to the first sentence. The given word must not be changed. 
What do you have to practise? 
Grammar and vocabulary – rewriting sentences with different words so that they mean the same thing.

How to act? 
Step 1: read both sentences; make sure you know their meaning and their grammatical tense.

Step 2: analyse what information you can already find in both sentences.

How to act? 
Step 3: fill in the missing words. Remember! You have to use 2 - 5 words. Less or more will cost you points. Collocations like 'don't' or 'I'm' will count as two words. You have to use the word 'idea'. 

What does it mean when you are 'in favour of something'? It means that you would prefer to do something, or that you think it is a good idea to do something. 

Use that to form your sentence: 
Joan thought it would be a good idea to go to the museum.

5. Multiple choice
Part 5: Multiple choice
What is it?
A text with some multiple-choice questions. Each question has four options (A, B, C or D), and students have to decide which is the correct answer.

How to understand the details of a text, including opinions and attitudes.

6. Cross-text multiple matching
What is it?
The task focuses on identifying opinions and attitudes expressed across texts.
What do you  have to practise?
Read English texts and focus on determinating different opinions. 
  • 4 questions
  • 1 mark for each correct answer

7. Gapped text
How to act?
Step 1: read the text quickly, ignoring the gaps
Step 2: analyze the paragraphs content-wise. What linking words do you see?
Step 3: Look closely at the text before and after the gap and decide what paragraph best fits te gap.
Step 4: re-read the text with your answers and see if everything is logical

8. Multiple matching 
What is it? 
 A series of statements/questions followed by a text divided into sections or several short texts. You have to match each statement to the section or text in which you can find the information.

What do you have to practise?
How to understand the details of a text, including opinions and attitudes.
