Articles zijn in het Nederlands lidwoorden zoals de, het en een.

Het Engels kent twee soorten lidwoorden: 

het bepaald lidwoord the en de onbepaalde lidwoorden a en an.

Waar we in het Nederlands 'de' of 'het' gebruiken, gebruikt het Engels alleen the.

De regels

- Je gebruikt a of an als je het over iets of iemand in het algemeen hebt. Net zoals bij het Nederlandse 'een'.

- A gebruik je als de eerste letter van het woord dat volgt als een medeklinker wordt uitgesproken, ook al schrijf je een klinker!

- An gebruik je als de eerste letter van het woord dat volgt als een klinker wordt uitgesproken, ook al schrijf je een medeklinker!

- Als je in het algemeen iets in het meervoud wilt zeggen, laat je het lidwoord weg.

De regels

- The is het bepaald lidwoord, oftewel het definite article. 

Het kan zowel bij enkelvoud als bij meervoud gebruikt worden.

- Het lidwoord the maakt van een zelfstandig naamwoord een specifiek exemplaar. Net zoals het Nederlandse 'de' of 'het'.
