Good Afternoon!
Schedule:
  • Learning goals
  • Last time
  • Intro question
  • Equal ratios/Lowest terms
  • Work + Skittles activity

Slide 1 - Tekstslide

Learning goals
At the end of this lesson I can:
  • Express a ratio in lowest terms
  • Identify equal ratios
  • Collaborate in an activity

Slide 2 - Tekstslide

What did we do last time?

Slide 3 - Woordweb

Express as a ratio in simplest form:
3 months to 1 year

Slide 4 - Open vraag

Which ratios are equal (the same)?
4:10
18:12
3:6
25:35
12:24
20:50
5:7
9:6

Slide 5 - Sleepvraag

Write as a ratio in lowest terms:
450 g of sugar to 1 kg of flour

Slide 6 - Open vraag

What to do
If you:
- Got all of them right                Quietly work on "equivalent ratios extra worksheet" on ManageBac
- Got 1 mistake                              Join the explanation and get to work after
- Got more than 1 mistake       Join the explanation and some examples

Slide 7 - Tekstslide

Equal ratios
Make sure the units are the same before expressing as a ratio
3 months to 1 year

1 year = 12 months

3:12                        1:4

Slide 8 - Tekstslide

Equal ratios
12:24 =                                              3:6
20:50 =                                             4:10
5:7 =                                                   25:35
9:6 =                                                   18:12
If you multiply or divide both parts of a ratio by the same number, you get an equal ratio

Slide 9 - Tekstslide

Equal ratios/lowest terms
(Lowest terms = simplest form)
To write in lowest terms you divide both parts of the ratio by the Highest Common Factor
450 g of sugar to 1 kg of flour                            ( 1kg = 1000 g )
450 : 1000 = 45 : 100
{HCF of 45 and 100 is        }

Slide 10 - Tekstslide

Work
- 16C 16DEquivalent ratios Extra worksheet (on ManageBac)

- When you are finished, Ratios challenging problems worksheet

- Skittles activity

Slide 11 - Tekstslide

Skittles activity
- Every group will get a bag of skittles. DO NOT EAT THESE. You need the skittles for the activity
- Answer the questions from the activity with your skittles
- Encourage each other to be good collaborators
