Should, could en would zijn hulpwerkwoorden.

Ze staan voor het hele werkwoord.

Voorbeeld:

You should call the doctor. You look all pale.

I could help him with his homework. 

They would like to know the answer.

Would betekent zou.

We would buy that big house if we had the money. = 

We zouden dat grote huis kopen als we het geld hadden.

Je gebruikt het om beleefd een aanbod te doen of bij if-zinnen.

Would you like something to drink?

I would study for that test, if I were you. 

Would - Form

Affirmative: would + infinitive

• I would  run a marathon every month.
  

Negative: wouldn't + infinitive

• we wouldn't talk back to our parents.

Question: would  + subject
