One child policy 
Population of China was growing too fast.

Government felt they needed to enforce this law, to protect the country from overpopulation

Law in China: Parents are only allowed to get one child.

It is estimated that this policy prevented four hunderd million births.

People preferred boys. 

There where a lot of abortions and abandonings of baby's. 
For example if the baby was a  girl or physically disabled.
