What is 'culture'?

• Culture =  everything that is made or invented by a society
• Paintings, statues, buildings, stories, theater plays, science etc.

Greek art

• Statues were very lifelike and have perfect bodies
• Artists studies the human body closely to make the statues
• Why perfection? -> Made the statues divine
• Statues represent gods, sportsmen or women

God Zeus or Poseidon made of bronze

Goddess Aphrodite (goddess of beauty) with God Pan (god of shepherds) and Eros (her son - god of love)

In what way are Greek art and science related?

Greek architecture 

• Temples: beautiful decorations 
• Height, width and depth in proportion -> mathematics!!
• Amphitheaters: open-air -> voices on stage needed to be heard in the top rows -> mathematics!!
