The age of unrest:

1848 Unrest in EU, people wanted more influence

They felt connected to other people with the same culture, language, history, traditions etc. 

People wanted to live in a country where their OWN people were in power > Nation-state

1. More colonies means more power.
2. They also wanted to make more profit and needed raw materials.
3. EU countries send armies to Africa and Asia to bring education civilisation and Christianity. > White superiority
