A trend is a general direction into which something is changing, developing, or veering toward. The term may also mean a fashion or craze, i.e., a fad.

Trends & Motivations

  • Needs and expectations of customers change over time


  • And therefore what people want from a destination will also change over time


  • If destinations fail to adapt to changing expectations, they will become less appealing (Butler Tourist model)


  • Businesses and destinations must constantly research current and emerging trends and markets in order to understand their customers and meet their needs

  • Demographic data refers to socio-economic information expressed statistically


  • Also including employment, education, income, marriage rates, birth and death rates and more factors
