Slide 4 - Tekstslide

Nectar and pollen
  • Many flowers produce nectar
  • Nectar attracts insects
  • Insects get covered with pollen
  • Insect goes to the next flower
  • Pollen lands on the stigma of a plant of the same species

Pollination
Pollination
The transfer of pollen from a stamen to the stigma of flower of the same species.

Slide 5 - Tekstslide

Slide 6 - Tekstslide

No pollination if:
  • Pollen lands on the stigma of a flower of another species

Slide 7 - Tekstslide

Self-pollination and cross-pollination

Slide 8 - Tekstslide

Cross-pollination:
Pollen can also get onto the stigmas of flowers of a different plant (of the same species)
Self-pollination:
 - Pollen from the stamens can get onto the stigma of the carpel of the same flower.
- Pollen from one flower can then get onto the stigma of another flower on the same plant.
