  • to know the difference between different sentences with 'if.....'
  • to be able to use these sentences in different situations

'If' statements - 4 kinds:

  • facts - If water reaches 100 degrees, it boils.
  • real or likely situations - If a soldier kills the ogre, he will be named champion.
  • unlikely or hypothetical situations - If I won the lottery, I would go travelling around the world.
  • situations that cannot be changed - If I had studied for the test, I would have passed. (But I didn't study, so I didn't pass.)

In groups of 4/5 students: 
When it is your turn
  • roll the dice, the number of spots is the number of squares you move
  • you take a card (cards should have been placed face down) and answer the question with a sentence starting with "if..............."
  • the other players  decide if you have used the correct tenses in the sentence
  • If you have used the correct sentences, you may throw the dice again and move forward. Your turn is now over.
In groups of 4/5 students: 
When it is your turn

  • the other players decide if you have used the correct tenses in the sentence
  • If you have used the correct sentence structure, you may throw the dice again and move forward. Your turn is now over.
  • If you land on a square with a ladder, move your counter to the top of the ladder.
  • If you land on a square with a snake's head, move your counter to the other end of the snake.
  • The person who gets to the last square first is the winner.
