Period 2
Sound

Slide 1 - Tekstslide

This lesson
  • Recap
  • Paragraph 5.2 — Detecting sounds
  •  Working independently

Slide 2 - Tekstslide

Learning goals
  • Name the three main parts of the ear and what their purpose is
  •  Explain how a microphone turns a sound wave into an electric signal
  •  Describe the four types of hearing loss

Slide 3 - Tekstslide

Recap

What did we cover previous lesson?

Slide 4 - Tekstslide

1)How is sound produced?
2) What is a medium?

3) Explain what is meant by
  • a) Compression
  • b) rarefaction

4) Longitudinal waves, transverse waves
  • a) How are they different?
  • b) What do they have in common?

Slide 5 - Tekstslide

How is sound produced?
  • Through a vibration

What is sound made off?
  • Sound waves

How does sound travel over distance?
  • Through a medium

Slide 6 - Tekstslide

Slide 7 - Video

Where do you the compression and rarefaction?

Slide 8 - Tekstslide

Where do you the compression and rarefaction?
Compression

Slide 9 - Tekstslide

Where do you the compression and rarefaction?
Compression
Rarefaction

Slide 10 - Tekstslide

A sound wave simulation

Slide 11 - Tekstslide

Paragraph 5.2

Detecting sounds

Slide 12 - Tekstslide

Exercise
write down what the purpose is of:

  • The Outer ear

  • The Middle ear

  • The Inner ear

      Slide 13 - Tekstslide

      Outer ear
      • Collect sounds waves, channels them to the middle ear

      Middle ear
      •  Amplifies the sound waves

      Inner ear
      • Turns the wave pattern into an electric signal so that it can be send to the brain through nerves

      Slide 14 - Tekstslide

      Slide 15 - Tekstslide

      Four types of hearing loss
      •  A hole in your ear drum — this heals over time

      •  Getting wax build up in your ear — this can be removed

      • An ear infection, fluid builds up in your middle and inner ear.

      • Your auditory nerve or system can get damaged or be fautly

      Slide 16 - Tekstslide
