Menstruation/period

• Uterus makes a thick mucous layer/inner lining
• Menstruation = getting rid of this layer
• Every month this tissue is made en then released from the body

Uterus gets rid of the mucous layer, this comes out of the vagina.<div>This takes 4 days <b>on average!</b></div>

Uterus starts making new mucuous tissue.<div>This slowly becomes thicker</div>

Ovulatie

<div>(about) 14 days after the <b>start</b>&nbsp;of the menstruation a new ovum is released from an ovary</div>

What would happen if the menstrual cycle would keep on going after fertilization of the ovum?

Hormones and puberty

• the pituitary makes hormones that trigger other glands
• In women the ovaries make estrogen
• Without estrogen a woman won't get secondary sex characteristics and will remain infertile

What can women use during their period?

An ovulation happens and 2 days later the ovum hasn't been fertilized.
What happens now?

1. Ovum dies in the ovary
2. Ovum dies in the fallopian tube
3. Ovum dies in the uterus
4. Ovum dies in the vagina
