Aims

You will be able to identify the past tense in a passive sentence.

You will be able to turn active sentences into passive sentences using the past tense.

Passives
We use passives when...
It does not matter WHO does the action.

We do that by switching the subject (onderwerp) with the object (leidend voorwerp) and changing the verb accordingly.
He cooked dinner yesterday.
Dinner was cooked (by him) yesterday.

Past Simple Passive
The dog chased the cat. -> active
The cat was chased (by the dog). -> passive

Past simple passive form:
REGULAR = was/were + verb + -ed
IRREGULAR = was/were + verb (3rd row)

Past Continuous Passive
The dog was chasing the cat. -> active
The cat was being chased (by the dog). -> passive

Past continuous passive form: 
REGULAR VERBS = was/were + being + verb + ed
IRREGULAR = was/were + being + 3rd row verb

Past Perfect Passive
The dog had chased the cat. -> active
The cat had been chased (by the dog). -> passive

Past perfect passive form:
REGULAR = had + been + verb + -ed
IRREGULAR = had + been + 3rd row verb
