Tops
  • Positive class!: You said hi when you came in, you shared some personal stories! I truly appreciate that.

  • You're willing to share your booklets and you're willing to work together! (Not every group can do this, so you should not underestimate how rare this can be)

  • If you don't understand a task or explanation you're not afraid to say you haven't understood something (such as the learner's report for the facilitation group meetings)! This means that I can be helpful and useful to you.  Keep doing this! Tell me what you're struggling with and I will always help you!

  • Great English pronunciation! Some of you say you don't speak English well, but I actually thought you all read the article sentences out loud quite well!

Tips
  • You broke most of my rules in the first lesson already: half of you didn't bring your books, a fair amount of you spoke while I was talking; it took too long for everyone to be quiet whenever I asked for your attention. I heard some of you cussing, and only a couple of you raised your hand when you had a question or wanted to say something, most of you just spoke your mind.
  • You left the room and the whole class had to wait for you to return before we could go on with the lesson
  • Overall, you were too loud

Learner's Report?
What should be in the learner's report?
  • minimum of 250 words (you're allowed to use more words
  • Summarize the main points
  • Conclude with the final unified outcome

!!!!Hand in both the report and the Facilitators Guide one week after the meeting!!!!

Slide 9 - Tekstslide

Learner's Report?
What should be in the learner's report?
Summarize the main points:
  • Introduce the topic: What's the topic of the task? Why is this a discussion point? What's your role as facilitator?
  • What was the outcome of the initial vote?
  • How did the discussion of the initial voting go? What stood out the most to you about this discussion?
  • Were there any additional options? Only mention those options that you feel are worth mentioning. Also, if there were no additional options, explain why you couldn't think of any. What was the problem here? What did you talk about with the group?
  • What happened when you compared the criteria; only mention that which stood out to you the most.

Conclude with the final unified outcome
  • Write a final conclusion; discuss the outcome, and also give your own opinion. Then conclude with your experience. What was it like to be the facilitator? Did the meeting go as you'd planned or did something unexpected happen.

Group Facilitation: Round 2
Task 2:
You are the organizers of a large community fair that has been organized for charity. Among the other charities that will have booths at the fair, there will be several animal rights organizations represented. You have sold tickets for a barbecue that promises an organic chicken dinner to everyone who has a ticket. You have sold more than 300 chicken dinner tickets. All profits will be used to pay for the event and any leftover money will go to a local hospice. There is, however, a problem. Your group did not get an estimate on the price of the organic chicken before you sold the barbecue tickets and you have now realized that if you buy organic chicken, you will lose money instead of having money to donate to the hospice. The butcher has offered you specially-bred fast growing chicken (plofkip) at a price that would allow you to pay for the fair and have money to donate to the hospice. If you buy this cheaper chicken you will be able to donate money to a good cause and there is a good chance no one would ever know. What should you do? Lose money on the whole fair with no way to pay for it, use the cheap chicken and keep it a secret or is there a better solution? Discuss all possibilities and reach a unified decision.
