§3.5 Along the axes
Before doing this § yourself,
let's watch a few fine points!

#### Slide 1 -Tekstslide

Explain the difference between 'axis' and 'axes'.

#### Slide 2 -Woordweb

Solution:
One axis, but two axes.
That's all.

#### Slide 3 -Tekstslide

WORDLIST (1):
axis, axes - as, assen
to weigh - wegen
(to grow) at a steady pace - constantly
the scale - de schaal, bijv. 1 : 3000
annually - yearly
to estimate - schatten

#### Slide 4 -Tekstslide

WORDLIST (2):
Open your Notebook and Copy the following words 1 t/m 6 in your wordlist:
1 axis, axes - as, assen                                                   javelin - speer
2. to weigh - wegen                                                          a candle is lit - een kaars wordt(!) aangestoken
3. (to grow) at a steady pace - constantly              skydiving - jumping out of a plane, not opening
4. the scale - de schaal, bijv. 1 : 3000                                     your parachute yet
5. annually - yearly
6. to estimate - schatten
7. to measure - meten

#### Slide 5 -Tekstslide

Points of attention:
+  See how SMOOTH
this graph runs!
+  The ZIGZAG on the vertical
axis! ( in this way 0 - 107 beats
are pressed in 1 cm!)

#### Slide 6 -Tekstslide

No ZIGZAG ?!
No indeed,
on the horizontal axis
we don't use a zigzag.
Zigzags are only used on the vertical axis!

#### Slide 7 -Tekstslide

Watch ...
The SCALES on the Horizontal axis
and the vertical axis
are not the same!

#### Slide 9 -Tekstslide

When drawing a graph
for this table,
what SCALE is best, on the vertical axis,
so for the HEIGHT in metres?
1 cm = ....... metres (fill in in next slide!)

#### Slide 10 -Tekstslide

1 cm = ......... metres

#### Slide 11 -Woordweb

solution:
The best scale on the vertical axis is:
1 cm = 500 metres !
As 3800 metres is the highest height in the table,
you then need  3800 : 500 = 7.6 cm (say 8 or even 9) on the vertical axis.

Also 1 cm = 400 metres is good! Then the vertical axis is 3800 : 400 = 9.5 cm

#### Slide 12 -Tekstslide

In the next slide,
describe the main advantage (voordeel) of
plotting TWO graphs
in ONE coordinate system.
Use only ONE WORD! It's a VERB (=werkwoord).
(You now can ........... ?!)

#### Slide 13 -Tekstslide

You now can .........!

#### Slide 16 -Tekstslide
