Prefixes(voorvoegsel)

Een voorvoegsel is een lettergroep die aan het begin van een woord wordt geplaatst om de betekenis ervan te veranderen. Voorvoegsels wijzigen meestal niet de woordsoort van het basiswoord; ze veranderen alleen de betekenis.

Voorbeelden:

Un- (niet): happy → unhappy (niet blij)

Re- (opnieuw): do → redo (opnieuw doen)

Pre- (voor): view → preview (voorvertoning)

Mis- (verkeerd): understand → misunderstand (verkeerd begrijpen)

Suffixes(achtervoegsels)

Een achtervoegsel is een lettergroep die aan het einde van een woord wordt toegevoegd. 

Voorbeelden:

-ful (vol van): joy → joyful (vol vreugde)

-less (zonder): fear → fearless (zonder vrees)

-ness (toestand van zijn): sad → sadness (droefheid)

-er (meer): fast → faster (sneller)

PASSIVE

Hoe vorm je de passieve zin?

Present Simple Passive:

Formule: am/is/are + past participle (voltooid deelwoord)

Bijv:

Actief: The gardener plants the flowers.

Passief: The flowers are planted by the gardener.

Actief: The chef cooks the meal.

Passief: The meal is cooked by the chef.

Past Simple Passive

Formule: was/were + past participle(voltooide deelwoord)

bijv:

Actief: The teacher corrected the tests.

Passief: The tests were corrected by the teacher.

Actief: The children decorated the room.

Passief: The room was decorated by the children.

Actief: The company launched a new product.

Passief: A new product was launched by the company.

Iets wat bezig is op het moment dat je erover praat of schrijft:

BIJV - I'm riding my bike. (nu)

Tijdelijke situaties: 

BIJV - I'm staying with my aunt while i'm in San Fransisco ( normaal woon ik ergens anders)

Om irritatie aan te geven, meestal in combinatie met always, forever, of constantly:

BIJV - Mum is always nagging me to clean my room

Als in het verleden iets gebeurt, gebruik je de past simple. 

The past simple eindigt vaak op -ed.

Past continuous

I was doing the dishes when the phone rang.

Our neighbour was painting his house when he fell off a ladder.

Je gebruikt de 'past continuous' om te vertellen dat iets in het verleden een tijdje bezig was, maar nu is gestopt. 

Je maakt de 'past continous' met de verleden tijd van 'to be' + werkwoord + ing.
