Lesson Goal:

• Grammar: Some/Any -             At the end of the lesson you know the difference between some and any and can use these words correctly in an English sentence.

Some/Any

When do you use SOME?

• In positive statements/ Positieve argumenten/Bevestigende zinnen.
• When you offer something/Wanneer je iets aanbiedt.
• In questions when you expect the answer is: 'Yes'.

For example: 

Would you like some bread? Yes, I would.

I brought you some bread. Bevestigend.

When do you use ANY?

• In questions.
• In negative sentences/Negatieve zinnen/Ontkennende zinnen.

For example: 

Do we have any bread in the house?

I don't want any bread.

SOME/ANY

something / anything = iets                                                     not … anything = niets

He is eating something. (Bevestigend)

somebody / anybody = iemand                                        not … anybody= niemand

He doesn't know anybody. (Ontkennend)

someone / anyone= iemand                                                 not … anyone= niemand

I haven't seen anyone. (Ontkennend)

somewhere / anywhere= ergens                                    not … anywhere= nergens

Do you want to go somewhere? (Vragend)

1. There weren't some / any children in the hospital.

2. We did some / any hard exercises during the workout.

3. Is there something / anything I can do to help you?

4: He lives somewhere / anywhere in Scotland.

5: I tried to find you a magazine, but they didn't sell some / any titles you like.

6: Can I buy some / any painkillers, please?

7: I only like some / any of the instructors of the gym.
