In this lesson, Ss talk about different people, activities and roles in their lives. The lesson begins with Ss learning vocabulary related to people and relationships. They then listen to three people talking about people and activities important to them. From this listening, Ss learn and practise using adjectives that describe personality, review and practise the present simple and present continuous, and notice and produce the pronunciation of do you in connected speech. Ss complete a speaking task where they describe different roles they have. Finally, they write a personal profile for a website, with a focus on linking words.

State verbs are verbs that we typically cannot see. They fit into 4 categories:
- possession and size
- opinion
- emotions and feelings
- verbs of the senses

See & Look can be action verbs & state verbs.

States can only exist in the simple form, never in the continuous. So we can say “this computer belongs to me” but not “this computer is belonging to me”.

State verbs are verbs that we typically cannot see. State verbs describe thoughts, feelings, sense and perceptions.

They fit into 4 categories:
- thoughts
- emotions and feelings
- sense
- possession and size

Common state verbs are: 
be, believe, belong, feel, forget, hate, hear, imagine, know, like, love, matter, mean, need, prefer, realise, remember, seem, suppose, understand.

Use the Present Simple: 
This computer belongs to me.
Never use the continuous: 
This computer is belonging to me.

Present Simple
We use the present simple to talk about something that is always or generally true, or for habits or routines (things that happen regularly).
Present Continuous
We use the present continuous to talk about an activity happening right (or around) now, at the time of speaking (now, at the moment, currently, this month).
State verbs
We use state verbs to describe thoughts, feelings, sense and perceptions (be, believe, belong, feel, forget, hate, hear, imagine, know, like, love, matter, mean, need, prefer, realise, remember, seem, suppose, understand).
Adverbs of frequency
We often use adverbs of frequency to tell us how often something happens (always, often, usually, sometimes, occasionally, rarely, never).
