Comparatives
Difficult word, but which word does this word come from?

Slide 1 - Tekstslide

Slide 2 - Tekstslide

Comparative = vergrotende trap.
Bij kortere bijv.naamwoorden (bn): bn + er
1. We can compare two things: Trevianum (1)  is bigger than Da Capo (2). Let op: soms moet je de medeklinker verdubbelen, zoals hier (bigGer)

2. We kunnen ook de vergrotende trap vóór een zn gebruiken:
I need a bigger car

Slide 3 - Tekstslide

Complete with the comparative
Comparative = vergrotende trap
Write these in your notebook and write the comparative behind these adjectives.
Small -->
fat -->
low -->
wide -->
funny -->

Slide 4 - Tekstslide

The answers:
Small --> smaller
!! fat --> fatter  (we moeten de 't' verdubbelen)
low --> lower
!! wide --> wider (we hebben al een 'e' dus we voegen alleen een 'r' toe)
!!!! funny --> funnier (einde op Y --> wordt ier)
Schrijf deze spellingstoevoegingen erbij in je schrift!

Slide 5 - Tekstslide

Does this sound correct?
My sister is beautifuller than I am.

If not, what do you think it should be?

Slide 6 - Tekstslide

This is what it should be:
My sister is more beautiful than I am.

Why? Als de bn wat langer is, gebruiken we 'more' + bn ipv bn+er.

Slide 7 - Tekstslide

Notebook:
a few irregular adjectives (onregelm. bijv. nwoorden):

bad --> worse
far --> further

Deze volgen NIET de regel en moet je gewoon van buiten leren!

Slide 22 - Tekstslide

recap of present tenses
In which tenses are these sentences?

1. Rob eats spaghetti.
2. Rob is eating spaghetti.

Slide 23 - Tekstslide

The tenses are:
1. Rob eats spaghetti. --> present simple
2. Rob is eating spaghetti. --> present contiNUous

What is the difference in meaning?

Slide 24 - Tekstslide

the difference in meaning:
1. Rob eats spaghetti. --> He likes it, so he sometimes eats it.
2. Rob is eating spaghetti. --> He is eating it now.

1. How do we make a present simple affirmative?
2. How do we make a present continuous?
Tip: look at the sentences above.... :)

Slide 25 - Tekstslide

How to form these tenses (affirmative)
present simple: I, you, we, they --> infinitive (= hele ww)
she/he/it (shit) --> +s /es/ies

present continuous: --> is/am/are + verb+ing

1. Rob eats spaghetti.
2. Rob is eating spaghetti.

Slide 26 - Tekstslide

But how do we make these interrogative?
1. Rob eats spaghetti.
2. Rob is eating spaghetti.

Slide 27 - Tekstslide

interrogative:
1. Rob eats spaghetti. --> Does Rob eat spaghetti?
Do/does + onderwerp + infinitive + rest van de zin
(Does voor shit onderwerpen natuurlijk...)
Ezelsbrug: SHIT stinkt, dus moet je DOESje :)

2. Rob is eating spaghetti.
Is Rob eating spaghetti?
Het enige wat je hoeft te doen is 'is/am/are' vooraan in de zin te zetten! :)

Slide 28 - Tekstslide

And how do we make them negative?
1. Rob eats spaghetti.
2. Rob is eating spaghetti.

Slide 29 - Tekstslide

How to make them negative:
1. Rob eats spaghetti. --> Rob doesn't eat spaghetti.
onderwerp + don't/doesn't + infinitive + rest van de zin
(doesn't natuurlijk voor de shit-onderwerpen....!)

2. Rob is eating spaghetti. --> Rob isn't eating spaghetti.
We zetten gewoon 'not' of 'n't' achter is/am/are
Easy peasy lemon squeezy!

Slide 30 - Tekstslide

And now it's time to practise!!!
You will now be given a number, which will dictate in which group you are.
Work in a group, do the exercises, discuss the answer and if you all agree, write THE SAME answer down in your notebook.
