When do we use much and when do we use many?

Look at the examples:

I don't have much money.
How many friends do you have?
He has got many books.
How much water do you drink each day?

The rule

Much is used for uncountable nouns : nouns that do not have a 

plural - money - water- air

Many is used for countable nouns - nouns that have a plural form such as coins - bottles - apples - tables- people

In affirmative sentences, "a lot" is usually translated as ...a lot of........

In questioning and negating sentences always use much or many

1. Get in to groups of three or four
2. Each group has a set of cards
3. Each student takes a turn taking a card and reading the question (USING MUCH OR MANY)to the student on their left. Then ask the follow up questions for more information.
4. Take turns taking a card and answering the questions until the cards or time run out.
