Module 3 Choice Board

Required
Digital Learning Resource Project

Using feedback provided on your initial design journal entries, continue to work on the development of your digital learning resource during Module 3. Remember that you should have completed a draft of your learning resource by Monday, March 18th so that you can share it with your House mates and receive peer feedback before finalizing it.

Option 1
This choice item is based on the book you read.

If you read The Filter Bubble

Take a good look at your professional and personal social media feeds.
Can you identify a filter bubble that might be or that has been been reinforcing your beliefs, values or positions on issues (political, social, professional)? If so identify how the bubble was created, why it feels comfortable to you and what the limitations of that filter bubble might be.

In a blog post or in a google document, reflect on how you might actively work to burst this filter bubble in light of your new understandings of the phenomenon and the broader social and cultural impact of polarized perspectives and echo-chambers.

If you read Weapons of Math Destruction

Think about the system in which you work. Can you identify an algorithm that shapes the way your organization functions? Or a way that the notion of "relevance" is used to filter information through digital channels? How could this algorithm be helping? And most importantly, how could this algorithm be hurting the mission of your organization, the work you are able to do, or the people who interact with your organization in some way.

In a blog post or in a google document, reflect on the pros and cons of this algorithm and identify ways that you could work to minimize the cons.

Option 2
Participate in the optional discussion forum posted up in Module 3 by adding insightful comments informed by the book you read and by the questions the book raised for you. Participation will vary -- but the key here is to make meaningful contributions to the class discussion that, ideally, generates more discussion.
Option 3
Install Google Read & Write on your web browser (it works with Chrome).

Play around with its features to get to know what it can do. Then, record a short (like 2-3 minutes max) screencast tutorial that you could use in your professional context to support a learner you know.

Post the link to your screencast on the Sharetracker.

Have fun!
