Because of new technological inventions many aspects of the production process of goods transfers to places outside of the US. Therefore, other countries become important economic powers as well. This becomes clear through Alan’s thoughts about his ‘mistakes’ in the past in which his decisions led to, for example, the production of bikes being moved to China. Additionally, at the end of the novel the Chinese are allowed to provide IT services to KAEC, not Alan’s American company.
