What do you do if you don't know a word?

What: Describe a word while not using specific words. 

Why: Warm-up, first glance at circumlocutuion

How: In pairs, own cards, most correct guessess wins

Outcome: bragging rights

Finished: You can't be.

So what is circumlocution?

Using more words to describe a (difficult) word that you perhaps can't come up with.

Instruction for the activity - round 1

What: Describe your picture without using taboo words, together answer questions.

Why: Good practice to use circumlocution to become more fluent in English.

How: Groups of 3 >>> 2 people speak seated across, one person observes and gives feedback to one person (carousel).

Time: 2:30 - 0:30 - 2:00 each round.

Help: Each other and the teacher.

Outcome: You have a clear image of each other pictures and have come up with a story.

Finished: You can't be.

Success criteria

1. You can tell a story afterwards, based on the pictures and guiding questions.

2. You are not using the taboo words, instead you are describing them (which is circumlocution).

3. You only speak English.

4. You are able to give and receive feedback, using the peer feedback form.
