Paragraph 4.5: Taking out the 'rubbish'

This powerpoint will be shared with you to work through at your own pace. At some points you will receive questions, which you can answer. If you get stuck, your teacher will be available to help!

Slide 1 - Tekstslide

Lesson goals
  • You can name all excretory organs, and explain what their functions are
  • You can explain which waste materials are disposed of in each of the excretory organs
  • You can explain how the kidney filters blood and produces urine
We will revisit these lesson goals later on!

Slide 2 - Tekstslide

To introduce the lesson..
  • To start, you will answer a few short questions to check your preparation
  • During this lesson you will watch a video that explains how the excretory system works, and which parts it consists of. In addition, you can also study the paragraph itself. (if I'm correct, you have already done this!)
  • Take notes during the video & when you read the paragraph
  • Afterwards you will answer a few questions about the matter, to check if you have understood it.

Slide 3 - Tekstslide

Which of the following organs is not an excretory organ?
A
Large intestine
B
Kidney
C
Small intestine
D
Skin

Slide 4 - Quizvraag

The next slide will contain a 'drag and drop'-question. Drag the waste products (in blue) towards the correct excretory organ (in red). Make sure there are no double waste products in organs!

Slide 5 - Tekstslide

Skin
Lungs
Kidneys
Carbon Dioxide
Other waste from blood
Undigested food

The video
  • In the next slide, you will find the video that explains how the excretory system works.
  • You can skip the part from 5:00 until 7:30
  • During the video, take some notes! You can pause the video, and view some parts again if you want to.
  • When words are used that you don't know, write them down and look them up.
  • The video goes a little more into detail than the book, but it will help you understand!

Slide 7 - Tekstslide

Slide 8 - Video

  • This video explained the                as well as the                 of the urinary system.
  • Now, study the part in paragraph 4.5 about urinary diseases and disorders for yourself. Again, take notes.
Anatomy
Anatomy = the structure (which parts it contains and what they look like)
Physiology
Physiology = how the system works

Slide 9 - Tekstslide

Back to the lesson goals..
As mentioned earlier, we would be coming back to the lesson goals.
The following slides will show a question related to the lesson goals, which you can answer. Through this, we will test whether you have 'completed' this lesson and are able to move on.

Slide 10 - Tekstslide

Name the four excretory organs that are discussed in the book.

Slide 11 - Open vraag

What is the excretory organ mentioned in the video, but not in the book?
A
Skin
B
Lungs
C
Liver
D
Pancreas

Slide 12 - Quizvraag

Again, link the waste product to the organ!

Slide 13 - Sleepvraag

True or false: all the materials that leave the blood in the kidneys, are immediately disposed of via urine
