Sorting through the past
What did you use to do when you were 7 years old that you don't do anymore?
What do you think your parents used to do in their free time before they had you?
What's something grandparents used to do that they can't do anymore?

Used to & would + verb
to talk about regular past actions that don't happen anymore. => vroegere gewoonten en voor dingen die vroeger zo waren, maar nu niet meer.
Ms. Dangerfield used to play outside a lot as a child.
We used to visit my grandparents every weekend.
My grandma would buy ice creams for us.
My brothers would beat me in Mario Kart.
to talk about past states that are no longer true - use USED TO with stative verbs: be, have, love, think, know, live... => vroegere toestanden die niet meer waar zijn - gebruik USED TO met statische werkwoorden: zijn, hebben, houden van, denken
Ms. D used to love annoying her brothers.
Ms. D used to be in the school choir.
Frequent mistakes:
I would live in Rome when I was a child.
=> I used to live in Rome when I was a child.
She used to went there every day but not anymore.
=> She used to go there every day but not anymore.
=> She would go there every day but not anymore.
He would be very shy at school, but he grew out of it
=> He used to be very shy at school, but he grew out of it.
Rewrite the sentence using 'would'. Can't use 'would'? -> use 'used to': People SMOKED on the plane.
