  • after certain verbs ( afford, agree, appear, ask, choose, expect, help, hope, intend, prefer, pretend, promise, seem, want)
  • after it+ be + adjective . Used to make a sentence more impersonal and the adjective describes the event that follows.
  • after have + noun
  • after allow, ask, beg,encouraged,force,persuade and teach in the pattern verb + someone + to do something
  • after allow, ask, beg, encouraged, force, persuade and teach in the passive
  • after  be  when it is a formal instruction
  • to express purpose
