AM vs. PM

We don't normally use the 24-hour clock in English.

We use a.m. (am) for the morning and 

p.m. (pm) for the afternoon and night.

3am = Three o'clock in the morning.

3pm = Three o'clock in the afternoon.

am abbreviation of: ‘Ante Meridiem' "before midday". This is the time before the sun has crossed the meridian

pm 'Post Meridiem', "after midday" – after the sun has crossed the meridian.

Usually 12 hours clock

In Britain we often use the 12 hour clock (except for transport timetables when the 24 hour clock is always used)

Here the suffix ‘h’ is often used, for example 14h or 14.30h. However when speaking, the 12 hour clock is always used.
