1. know how to create a  press release proposal  based on the web lecture and class exercises, thus preparing them for writing assignment 2

1. students will decide THEMSELVES  what the Giveaway Prize is and

2.  The Instagram page does NOT necessarily have to focus on Sustainability.  Instead, the focus of the IG page is to promote areas of their city that are cool, funky, remarkable and the IG has to be as "Instagrammable" as possible.

Tips how to reach a full B1-level (and beyond)

1. Go to Thesaurus.com for synonyms

2. Check the words you have selected in https://dictionary.cambridge.org to make certain the new words make sense in the context of your article

3. Apply linking words or phrases (verbindingswoorden) (see next sheet) 

4. Mix up the word order of your sentences

- LINKING WORDS.  TAKE THEM TO THE NEXT SHEET or GO TO GOOGLE IMAGES THEMSELVES AND SEE DIFFERENT TABLES WITH CATEGORIES OF LINKING WORDS.

- WORD ORDER.  TEACHER CAN EXPLAIN WAYS TO CHANGE THE WORD ORDER OF SENTENCES ON THE WHITEBOARD.

What two things are most important to remember about press releases?

1. newsworthy

2. clearly structured using proper formatting

AGAIN, you can only really use this slide IF you show the video in the preceding slide.

1. Headline: interesting to catch the reader's attention/short/newsworthy/interesting

2. Lead: answer the five Ws briefly, but hold to your readers’ attention (who/what/where/when/why)

3. Source: prove your trustworthiness.

 If you’re basing your press release on external sources, make sure to cite them in the press release.

4.  Essentials: the beauty is in the details.

Give your readers the essential details. 

And by details, we mean the basic information that is necessary to figure out why this press release is newsworthy.

5.  Quotes: show the perspective of others.

 They bring another perspective to the text and make it more diverse.  A suitable quote adds colour  to your press release.

6.  Additional data: is there anything else you need to add? Visuals? Website link?

7.  Contact details: introduce yourself

People might want to ask some additional questions about your story.

 

8.  Boilerplate (business card): the perfect way to end a press release

Journalists want to know more about you. The boilerplate is exactly the place where they will find any additional info about your company or you. Make it fun and interesting—it works as your business card.

HOW do you plan to execute this press release? What's the plan?

Basically, they will have to start by reading the instructions on Moodle in the Instructions for assignment 2:  Writing a PR proposal.

Individually, continue 9 (start?) filling in the form for your Press Release Proposal

1. On Moodle, FIND Assignment 2:  "Assignment Description about Writing a Press Release Proposal"
2. READ the Assignment Description
3. You will spend 25 minutes FILLING IN THE FORM, writing the basics for your press release.
4. You will UPLOAD the form into Teams into the folder called "Submit Assignment 2 "  
5. WRITE YOUR FULL NAME in the title of uploaded article.

The final assignment

 For your graded summative assignment, you will write a press release on behalf of the Tourism Board in Rotterdam, Amsterdam or Haarlem (depending on your location). The press release is about students from Hogeschool Inholland being invited/encouraged to submit an Instagram page to the Tourism Board. The press release is dedicated to promoting tourism in their respective city. Student(s) will receive an Instagram Giveaway Prize for the most “Instagrammable” Instagram page. You decide yourself what the Giveaway Prize(s) are.

In effect, you have to put yourself in the professional role of working for the Tourism Board. Your job, as an employee of the Tourism Board, is to write the press release for your own Tourism Board. It is your job to write the press release and invite/encourage students from Hogeschool Inholland to submit an Instagrammable Instagram page to the Tourism Board.
