Multiplication Magic: Easy Times
Multiplication Magic: Easy Times
What do you already know about multiplying numbers?
Learning Objective
At the end of the lesson you will be able to recognise, use, and solve simple multiplication problems.
What Is Multiplication?
Multiplication is adding groups of the same number together. It makes counting faster and easier.
Groups of Apples
If you have 2 groups of 3 apples, how many apples do you have?
Adding the Same Number
Multiplication is like saying 3 + 3 instead of counting each apple one by one.
The Times Symbol (×)
We use the '×' sign to show multiplication. For example, 2 × 3 means 2 groups of 3.
Let's Multiply 2 × 4
Put 4 in each group. Total is 8.
Step 2
Take 2 groups.
Step 1
Multiplication as Repeated Addition
2 × 4 is like 4 + 4 = 8. Repeated addition is another way to multiply.
Using Fingers
You can use your fingers to help count groups. Try 3 × 2!
Quick Times Table
Let's look at a simple times table for 2 and 5. 2 × 1 = 2, 2 × 2 = 4, 2 × 3 = 6, 5 × 2 = 10.
Spot the Pattern
When you keep adding the same number, you make a pattern! 2, 4, 6, 8, 10...
Let’s Practise Together!
What is 4 × 2? Try using groups or addition.
Game Time!
Form groups with your classmates and create your own multiplication stories.
Why Learn Multiplication?
Multiplication helps solve problems faster, like dividing sweets or sharing with friends.
Test Yourself
What is 2 × 5? What about 5 × 3? Try drawing the groups.
