Learning Objective
At the end of the lesson, you will know what your poem will be about and have started to write your own poem.

Slide 2 - Tekstslide

Introduce the learning objective to the students.
Formative assessment
• Write a 12-line poem that explores the theme of Love and Conflict.
• The poem should have a clear message (directly or indirectly expressed)
• Use poetic techniques: alliteration, assonance, rhyme, repetition and figurative language.
Begin today, hand it in Wednesday 19 April.

What is Poetry?
Poetry is a form of creative writing that uses language to express feelings, ideas, and experiences.

Define poetry and ask students if they have any experience in writing poems.
Post here any feelings, ideas or experiences you feel strongly about.

Choosing a Topic
Pick a topic that you are passionate about. It could be anything - a person, place, memory, or emotion.
Take 5 minutes to do this. 
Individually, or with classmates. 

Remember our theme is Love and Conflict.

Discuss how to choose a topic and ask students to brainstorm ideas.
Free Writing
Start by free writing for a few minutes. Write down anything that comes to mind about your chosen topic.

Decide whether you want your poem to rhyme or not. 

5 minutes.

Explain the importance of free writing and have students try it out for a few minutes.
Start your poem
What is your poem about? (meaning)​
What do you want to say (what is your message)?​
What images can you use (metaphors and comparisons) ​
Play with rhymes, words starting with same letters or lines starting with the same words..​
Which key words or phrase do you want to use and repeat? 
Use alliteration and assonance​

Encourage students to share their work with others and provide a safe space for feedback.
Edit and Revise
Once you have a draft, go back and edit and revise your poem. Look for areas where you can strengthen your writing.
