What are we going to learn today?

Today we are going to learn:

Where/how fertilization occurs.

How pregnancy occurs.

How you can examine the pregnancy (prenatal examination) and give examples of this.

Fertilization

Fertilization

Fertilization is the fusion of the nuclei of the sperm cell and the egg cell. This takes place in the fallopian tube. Only one sperm cell can enter the egg cell, when it is inside a ''shield'' is created.

Implantation

The fertilized egg then immediately divides and is transported to the uterus. Here it will implant itself into the endometrium.

Pregnancy

In the first 8 weeks, the fertilized egg is called an embryo, after that it is called a fetus. Then the embryo has as its basic form and there is a placenta present. 

Prenatal testing

During pregnancy, a lot can go wrong, so the pregnant mother is examined during pregnancy. This can be done with a combination test, NIPT or ultrasound.
