The Mongol Empire
Traditionally, the Mongols were nomadic herders, often in conflict with each other.

Leader Genghis Khan united the Mongols in 1205 and expanded the Empire until it was the largest one in the world. This was partly because:
  • Mongols were very good horsemen
  • There were few rivals

The expansion of the Empire led to new trade routes with Europe: the Silk Road
  • trade of resources + exchange of cultures
