- urban, racially diverse district   - second grade class of 23

- wide range of abilities                   - 7 students with IEPs

- Challenges: group and independent work because of competetive nature of students and knowing how to use the resources available to them

Unit Description

Description: A comprehensive, interdisciplinary approach to honey bees and their interactions and impact on our ecosystem and society as a whole. Student-driven inquiry by writing, verbal expression, artistic movement, community based events, community outreach, expository text, research, and pretend play. 

             The Honey Makers

We use the book The Honey Makers as an anchor to guide each learning experience, incorporating literacy throughout.

Central Focus:

This unit focuses on bees and their role in pollination, their community, as well as our ecosystem. Using an anchor text throughout the unti, students will explore bees with a specific focus on pollination, honey production, community interaction and interdependence.
