• Lenin died in 1924.
• New dictator --> Stalin.
• He introduced a planned economy to speed
  up industrialization.
• Stalin also forced the peasants to
  collectivize.

collectivisation: merging of private farms into communal agricultural companies

planned economy: economy in which the government prescribes what needs to be produced

• They had to join kolkhozes
• Many peasants resisted this
• Stalin then intervened harshly with terror and starvation.
• --> Holodomor
