Before you watch

You are going to watch a video interview with a survivor from a Japanese internment camp.

What 2 reasons were the Japanese put into internment camps?

Which 2 countries were not put into internment camps in North America?

Italy and Germany

Why?
1) Because these countries are farther away from the west coast of America. The West Coast is close to Japan and the government was scared that loyal Japanese would be spies for their country. 2) Racism - Many Americans still did not accept the Japanese within their country.

What two things kept them inside the internment camps?

- machine guns facing them
