A theme is a message about life or human nature that’s shared by a writer. 
Here are some ways to find and analyze themes:
• Look for explicit textual statements of the characters’ ideas about life or people. Pay particular attention to statements characters make about lessons they have learned over the course of events.
• Look for details that implicitly convey, or imply, what a character believes about life or human nature. For instance, how a character reacts to a conflict or problem, and the results of his or her behavior may hold a message the author wants to convey.
