Before reading:
- prepare for a text: exploring
- look at the title, picture and possible info at the bottom
- what do you already know about the text's topic?
- what type of text is it?
- read the questions, and possible instructions
- try to figure out what the text will be about.
--> We call this  SKIMMING (reading globally)

Why is it important to know which type of text you are reading?

- to inform
- to entertain
- to convince
- to activate
- to instruct

While reading:
- Look for specific information in the text
- Look for distinct words such as numbers, capital letters
- Find proof in the text for the answer to the question
- Pay attention to key words: because, however, but, and, still, moreover, therefore, ...
- What is the text structure?
--> We call this SCANNING (reading intently)
