Slide 24 - Open vraag

GCSE/Everyday
The woodlouse will move towards moisture.

A plant would send its roots deeper into the soil to find more water.
A Level
The woodlouse would increase its movement in random directions till it found an environment with a higher level of moisture.

A plant would do more mitosis and cell division in the meristem tissue at the tips of the roots. This would result in elongation of the roots which would mean they would extend deeper into the soil and increase the chances of accessing more water.

Slide 25 - Tekstslide

New vocabulary
Taxes - a simple response whose direction is determined by the direction in which the stimulus lies. A taxes can be positive i.e. towards the stimulus or negative i.e. away from the stimulus.
  • chemotaxis
  • phototaxis
  • magnetotaxis
  • geotaxis
  • Thigmotaxis

Slide 26 - Tekstslide

New vocabulary
Kineses (Kinesis sing.) - a form of response in which the organism does not move towards or away from the stimulus. In this response the speed and rate of changes in direction both increase.

Slide 27 - Tekstslide

New vocabulary
Tropism - is a growth of part of a plant in response to a directional stimulus. Again tropisms can be positive and towards a stimulus, or negative and away from a stimulus.
  • phototropism
  • geotropism or gravitropism
  • hydrotropism
  • thigmotropism

Slide 28 - Tekstslide

Task
  • Choose an example of one of each of  the responses.
  • Describe in detail that response.
  • Provide suitable images to support your example
  • Explain how the response increases the organisms chances of survival.
