-I can name the chambers and directly attached blood vessels of the human heart.

-I can distinguish the 3 different types of blood vessels on images and (microscope) photos.

Which artery is oxygen-poor?

1. Aorta
2. Superior vena cava
3. Inferior vena cava
4. Pulmonary artery

Where can you find AV-valves?

1. Between the atria and ventricles.
2. Between the left ventricle and aorta.
3. Between the right ventricle and aorta.
4. Between the left ventricle and pulmonary artery.

Coronary arteries:

1. Bring O2 and nutrients to the heart.
2. Bring CO2 and waste products to the heart.
3. Take away O2 from the heart.

Arteries

-Blood flows away from heart.

-High blood pressure-->pulse.

-Thick walls to deal with pressure.

-Narrower inside diameter compared to veins.

-Blood flows quickly.

Veins

-Blood flows towards heart.

-Low blood pressure-->no pulse.

-Thinner walls than arteries.

-Larger inside diameter compared to arteries.

-Have valves.

Capillaries

-Between arteries and veins.

-Inside organs.

-Low blood pressure, because of large total volume.

-Blood flows slowly.

-Walls 1 cell thick, with openings.

Muscle pump

-Veins far away from heart need help.

-Muscles around vein help pump.

-Blood may 'hang around' arms and legs when muscles are inactive.

Digestive system

-Digestive organs receive oxygen.

-Digestive organs release nutrients (but no oxygen).

-Veins carry nutrients to liver.

-Liver checks 

 harmful substances + stores nutrients.

Capillaries have:

1. The thickest walls.
2. A thick wall, but not the thickest.
3. A wall made up of only 1 cell layer.
4. No wall.

To check victims to see if they are still alive, we check these blood vessels:

Muscle pumps are needed at:

1. Veins.
2. Arteries.
3. Capillaries.
4. All of the above.

You can recognise veins on images, by looking at:

1. Colour: they are blue.
2. Colour: they are red.
3. Direction of flow: towards the heart.
4. Direction of flow: aways from heart.
