Some/any: uitzonderingen

'Some': als je ergens om vraagt of een aanbod doet en een positief antwoord verwacht

Can I have some water, please? -> At someone's place.

Would you like some tea? -> At a restaurant. 

'Any': bij 'never', 'hardly (nauwelijks)', 'without'

He never has any time.

She passed the test without making any mistakes.

Some/any: samenstellingen

Bij samenstellingen met 'some' en 'any' gelden dezelfde regels.

There is someone at the door.

Is anyone home?

I want to do something.

I can't do anything for you.

-thing, -body, - where, -time

1.  thing (verwijzend -> 'iets' / 'niets'

2.  body (verwijzend -> 'persoon')

3. where (verwijzend -> 'plaats')

Some examples

1. There isn't anything I hate more than Brussel Sprouts. 

2. Playing football is something I really like. 

3. I was completely lonely. There wasn't anybody nearby.

4. My father used to now somebody / someone who lived in France. 

5.  "Somewhere over the rainbow", is a very famous song!
