The final assignment
Look at page 16 in your booklet:

During the last 5 lessons, you’ve seen a lot of news videos. Now that you’re a professional news reporter, you’re going to record your very own English news broadcast. This will be done in groups of 4/5, and you have 2 full lessons to finish this assignment. The video should be min. 3 and max. 5 minutes long. You can find a list of useful language on the last page of your booklet.

Step 1 (lesson 6)
Look on the internet for an (English) article that you all find interesting. This can be about anything: sports, climate change, politics, anything that is happening in the world that you find interesting.

Slide 4 - Tekstslide

Step 2 (lesson 6)
Decide who is going to do what:
The roles are as followed:
- 2 news reporters who are going to explain the news item: 1 person is at the location your news is happening, 1 person is at the “studio” explaining the news.
- 1 interviewer, 1 interviewee (= someone who is being interviewed about the news item).

If you’re in a group of 5: 2 news reporters who are at the “studio”, 1 person who is at the location your news is happening.

Everyone has to be in the video, and everyone has to speak during the video.

Step 3 (lesson 6)
Write a script – don’t forget to give your news broadcast a name! Decide: who is going to say what? You have to use the information from the article in your news video.

Step 4 (lesson 7)
Record your news video. You’re allowed to use a piece of paper with your text on it, just make sure it doesn’t look like you’re reading from a piece of paper. Tip: use a PowerPoint with pictures to make the news broadcast look more real.

Step 5 (lesson 7)
Look at this checklist, does your video include everything?
  • Everyone is included in the video.
  • Everyone speaks during the video.
  • 1 person is at the location where the news is happening.
  • 1 person is at the “station” reporting the news.
  • 1 person is interviewing someone.
  • 1 person is being interviewed.
  • Your video is min. 3 minutes and max. 5 minutes long.
  • Your video has a beginning, middle (with explanation of the situation and a short interview) and ending.
