If -sentences (1st conditional)

Een conditional?

Een conditional is een voorwaarde. 

Deze voorwaarde wordt gevormd door een if-sentence.

Oftewel: als aan deze voorwaarde wordt voldaan, dan zal dit gaan gebeuren. Een voorbeeld:

If you never smoke, you will be healthier.

Hoe maak je een conditional?

Een conditional bestaat uit twee delen:

1. de if-sentence

2. de hoofdzin

Hoe vorm je deze twee delen:

1. de if-sentence staat in de Present Simple.

2. in de hoofdzin wordt will + hele ww gebruikt.

If I go to bed earlier, I will not be so tired.

If you walk the dog more, it will not poop inside the house.

His parents will be really mad, if he doesn't eat his vegetables for dinner.

Je ziet dus in de voorbeelden dat:

1. de if-sentence ook een ontkenning kan hebben in de Present Simple (don't / doesn't).

2. je de if-sentence en de hoofdzin ook kunt omdraaien.

Als je knoeit met je melk, verpest je straks de vloerbedekking.

1. If you spill your milk, you ruin the carpet.
2. If you will spill your milk, you ruin the carpet.
3. If you spill your milk, you will ruin the carpet.
4. If you'll spill your milk, you'll ruin the carpet.
