Slide 6 - Tekstslide

Melody
Rhythm
High and low notes put behind each other
Long and short notes put behind each other

Slide 7 - Sleepvraag

Difference between melody and rhythm
Melody
High and low tones played after each other.
The hight on the note stave tells us how high the note is. The higher it is written, the higher the tone is.

Rhythm
Long and short notes played after each other.
The look or appearance of a note tells us how long or short we should play a note. A note can be black, transparant, with or without a stick.

Slide 8 - Tekstslide

Rhythm: long and short notes
Remember Ici? We also played long and short notes. We had learned that the short notes were black and the long notes were transparant.

Slide 9 - Tekstslide

Rhythm: long and short notes
But how long does a note last exactly? How do you know how long or how short a note should be played?

We count the beats of the note.

Example:
A black note with a stick lasts 1 beat
The rhythm name of this note is a quarter note
So, we say: A quarter note lasts 1 beat

Slide 10 - Tekstslide

Rhythm: long and short notes
Remember Ici with the long and short notes?
The black ones are quarter notes and last 1 beat.
The trasparant ones are longer, they last 2 beats.

Rhythm: measures
To organise all these beats, we write notes in blocks of (usually) four beats.
These blocks are called measures.

You can also have 3 beats in a measure or 6 or even 12!
But we well mostly be working with 4 beats per measure.

In groups of two or three

One person will clap one of the rhythms
The other person is going to guess which rhythm is clapped.

You are allowed to count out loud (hard op) if you want to.

Slide 24 - Tekstslide

Write your own rhythm
In groups of two to three students
Write your own rhythm of two measure of 4 beats.

Done writing? Clap the rhythm with your group. Make sure you clap at the same time (don't go too fast!)
You will have 10-15 minutes for this exercise. After that, we're going to listen to each other and see if we can write the rhythm down that the other group is clapping.
