A structured conversation
A series of questions and answers
Part of the news/information gathering process
Conducted to get information
To challenge authority or hold authority to account
About listening to the answers as they're given

          The 5 W's...

Who, What, Where, When, Why 
And an 'H'... How?

But first...
WHY?
Why do you want to talk to this person?
Why are you conducting this interview?
Why will this person's interview help to tell the story?

And when you know WHY you're doing the interview, you can decide WHAT you want to ask... 
WHAT do you want to know?
Facts or information to support a story?
To challenge authority? (Investigative)
To add human interest/gain a personal response ?(emotional)
Because they're a celebrity?
...Be POLITE.
...Don't be afraid to be NOSY! Journalism is about CURIOSITY
