Checking homework
General remarks:
- plural (meervoud) of words: ends with -s, not -'s
- I (ik) always a capital letter (so not 'i', but 'I')
- I CAN see if you use Google Translate, so please don't!
- Make sure to reach word count!

Slide 3 - Tekstslide

Direct speech
You use direct speech to repeat the direct words that someone has said. Sometimes these sentences are placed between quotation marks.

John said: "I have seen the new Apple iPhone."
Ezra said: "I really like old cars."

Slide 4 - Tekstslide

Indirect / reported speech
You use indirect / reported speech to retell what someone else has said. Because the sentences have already been spoken, reported speech is often in the past tense.

John said that he had seen the new Apple iPhone.
Ezra said that he really liked old cars.

Slide 5 - Tekstslide

So, the difference is...?
Indir: John said: "I have seen the new Apple iPhone."
Dir:    John said that he had seen the new Apple iPhone.

What changes?

Slide 6 - Tekstslide

So, the difference is...!
Indir: John said: "I have seen the new Apple iPhone."
Dir:    John said that he had seen the new Apple iPhone.

1. Tense change: have seen -> had seen
2. Subject change: I -> he
3. Interpunction change: no more colons (dubbele punt) and quotation marks (aanhalingstekens)
