Present simple

 Wanneer: with facts & habits

Vorm: Hele werkwoord of shit rule (he/she/it > ww +s)

- He walks to school every day.

- The sun rises in the east. 

I'm working at the moment.

Tense?

4. Past perfect

Present continuous

Wanneer: als iets nu aan de gang is.

Vorm: am/are/is + ww+ing

- He is reading a book at the moment.

Signal words: Now, right now, at the moment.



- My friend is talking to the sales assistant at the moment.

Complete the sentence:

Past simple

Gebruik: Gebruik: om te zeggen dat iets in het verleden is gebeurd en nu is afgelopen.

Vorm : regelmatige ww + ed > worked

onregelmatig ww > 2e vorm > go - went

They went to the cinema last Saturday.

Lady:  Last, ago, datum (in 2000), yesterday

Past continuous

Use: The past continuous is used for an activity in the past. It is continued for a longer period of time and eventually stopped.

Form: To be (was of were) + verb +ing

Past Simple & Past Continuous

If you have to choose between the past continuous and the past simple that are both in 1

sentence, the longer activity is the past continuous and the shorter activity is the past simple.

Yesterday I __________ (to watch) TV when the phone __________ (to ring).

Wanneer: Gebruik: iets is in het verleden begonnen en loopt nu nog door.

Je merkt het resultaat van een gebeurtenis uit het verleden.

Vorm: have/has + voltooid deelwoord

Present Continuous

                                 am/are/is + verb + ing

• Afspraken waarvan de tijd en/of plaats al vast staat (geregeld)
• We are having dinner at a restaurant at 6.30.
• I am flying to Paris next week.

Let op!

Je kende al een future vorm: to be going to. Deze lijkt op hoe de present continuous future gebruikt wordt, maar is wel anders:

- plan wat vast staat = present continuous future 

'I'm flying to New York tomorrow morning.'

- plan wat niet vast staat, een voorspelling = to be going to + ww

'Look at the clouds, I think it's going to rain.'

Future will/shall

De future vorm will + heel ww en shall + heel ww wordt gebruikt om iets aan te bieden, iets te beloven, of om voorspellingen te maken. 

-The teacher will help you.

- I promise, I will do the dishes tonight. 

- I predict I will ace this test, I studied so hard! 

- Shall I walk the dog tonight? 

Future: My bus ___ at three o'clock.
