Slide 2 - Woordweb

Passive voice
form of "to be" + past participle (voltooid deelwoord)
  • Used when focus is more on the action that happened rather than who performed the action.
  • It might not be known who performed the action or obvious>> My bike was stolen last night (I don't know who took it). The man was arrested (the police arrested him, not my granny!)

Slide 3 - Tekstslide

Objects in the sentences are: the dishes. a new coat

What does the form of 'to be' indicate in the passive sentence?

A past form of "to be" >> was /were >>> is something that happened in the past.
