Goal

• At the end of the lesson, you will be able to apply literary terms to the text:
  "Genesis and catastrophe"

Why?

You need to be able to analyse texts and books using the correct terminology.

This will give you a deeper understanding of the book!

Terms #1

Characters:

1. Main characters;

very involved, make important actions

2. Minor Characters:

more on the background,

are used once or twice

Have the tendency of not returning.

Narration

Narration = perspective:

1st - "I" tells the story

2nd - "you" tell the story (uncommon)

3rd - "he, she, it, they" the story is told by an outsider who knows it.

Limited narration
Omniscient narration

Narration 2

There are two types:

Limited: De verteller leert meer nadat het verhaal ontwikkeld

Omniscient: de verteller weet alles al, ook de details. Deze informatie wordt door het verhaal heen "vrijgegeven"

Setting

With setting we mean:

Date, time, season and/or place

A book usually has many settings which can play with the mood.

"It was the second of April, on a dark stormy night...."

Plot

The plot describes what happens in a story, as if it was history.

The plot from Harry Potter could be:

A young boy finds his way and purpose by becoming a wizard, facing many problems along the way as he matures.
