Blended Learning Definition

Blended learning is an educational approach that combines traditional face-to-face instruction with online learning activities. It seeks to leverage the strengths of both traditional classroom methods and digital technologies to create a more flexible and personalised learning experience. The innovative use of technology enables teachers to implement a rich and rigorous academic curriculum focusing on meeting students’ individual social, emotional, and learning needs. Students are engaged in challenging learning empowered by interactive and mobile technologies inspiring higher order thinking, creativity, communications and collaboration and solving real-world problems.

The classroom learning environment has a blended digital toolkit that includes: iPads, digital pens, interactive whiteboards, cameras and microphones. This digital toolkit enables teachers to select their preferred medium to enhance learning, individualising how they access the curriculum. Students can complete assignments or projects, accessing digital resources such as videos, interactive simulations, online assessments, and other online platforms.

Blended learning allows our teachers to tailor instruction to meet the diverse needs and learning styles of students. It provides flexibility in pacing and delivery of content, allowing students to progress through material at their own pace and access additional support or enrichment as needed. Additionally, it encourages active engagement and self-directed learning by providing students with opportunities for independent exploration and collaboration both in and out of the classroom.

Overall, blended learning represents a shift towards a more dynamic and student-centred approach to education, integrating the benefits of traditional teaching methods with the affordances of digital technology to enhance learning outcomes. The main objective of the school is not to overload teachers with extra tasks, but rather to leverage technology and available resources to alleviate their workload.
