The Dutch circle

A Dutch birthday party can be best described as a ‘party’ that involves sitting around in a circle all afternoon and chatting while drinking tea or coffee and eating cake. Because of this they have become know as Dutch circle parties among a lot of people (expats and Dutch alike).

What was the last party you went to? Describe what it was for.

Did you bring a gift? What?

Who did you meet there?

And what did you do?

Tell the class about the last party you went to. Describe what it was for, who you met there and what you did. Give Ss a minute or two to think about the last party they went to, then put them in pairs to tell each other about them.
